Dove advert

Image
DOVE AD  Since dove's launch in 1957, the brand have changed their marketing styles substantially. In this 1960s advert, their presentation of promoting the dove bar is more about the women shown rather than the product itself. By presenting a women in a bath as the main focus subconsciously makes the audience focus primarily on her. and the choice of her being in a bath naked capitalsies on the attraction from males in order to receive more popularity. However the ad is leaning more playful rather than hypersexualised. They haven't chose to represent the women as an unattached individual instead they have made her a wife, different to todays ad's.

Media language advert analysis

Image
This image encodes a stereotypical representation of women and men, with the male character being shown as dominant and protective and the female looking dependent on the man while still being extremely sexualised. This stereotypical representation is strengthened by the use of: facial expressions, the male has been told to look almost angry at the camera inferring a look of protection over the women while not giving away too much emotion to lean into the stereotypical view of men being emotionless and cold. The women has her eyes shut and face lent against the man portraying reliance, also with her back turned away from the camera further reinforcing those stereotypes of women not being confrontational and leaving it to a man. Choice of hair and makeup is also relevant as they have presented them both in a very generic way with the man wearing a black suit to show class and respectfulness and the women in a backless sexy dress with red lipstick supporting the stereotype o...

CAGED representation one  C lass  A ge G ender E thnicity D isability  Caged is a starting point in representation for analysing media. it shows regional identity and can educate people, especially focusing on each difference a person may have or appear having.  stereotypes are a useful shorthand for producers ( they are not always bad ) archetype is a typical representation whereas stereotypes are more exaggerated  Halls theory   Hall's 'end-decoding' model argues that media produces 'preferred meanings' but different people consume and interpret that text multiple ways. The dominant-hegemonic position: a 'preferred reading' that accepts the texts messages and the ideological assumptions behind the message
