Independent work practice exam questions

  • The five main conglomerates Disney, Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount and Sony they have control over most films leaving less room for creativity.
  • Bigger companies have bigger budgets- better CGI, better casting of stars, more ways to market
  • However these big companies dont leave a lot of room for creativity or diversity, they stick to what they know will sell i.e franchises popular genres, popular actors, sequels and remakes.
  • The ownership for Disney- both Snow White and Shang Chi had access to high budgets as Walt borrowed 10 million from the bank after realizing his budget wasn't enough. This allowed both films to use innovative technology ensuring less of a financial risk.
  • Snow white- Walt invested in new technology, technicolour, rotoscoping and multiplane camera. Also hired over 700 artists to help draw the animations. His tight dictatorship control over the film had lots of negative outcomes but you could argue made sure the film succeeded as he had brilliant ideas.
  • Shang Chi- used their 150 million dollar budget to profit their film, casted famous stars loved globally such as Simu Lui Tony Leung. They also oversaw all the marketing.

  • technological advancments - synchronized sound, technicolour
  • budget limitations
  • releasement of genres at the time. A superhero fantasy Shang Chi being released in covid when everyone wanted to escape
